Queen Elizabeth’s High School 2001-2008 A-levels: Sociology grade A, Chemistry grade B, Biology grade B, General Studies grade C. AS level psychology grade A. GSCEs: 9 subjects 3A 6B. Work experience and voluntary work: May 2006 Parish Church C of E primary school: Worked with a group of children aged 5/6 and assisted the teacher for one week. I developed excellent relationships with both the staff and students of this school, and always completely set tasks readily and to a high standard. May 2007 The cedars-Nursing home: Worked with the elderly/Alzheimer’s disease sufferers. I assisted the carers with their work and generally helped the elderly in their life in the nursing home. Oct 2007-Feb 2008 Cleveland Surgery-General practice: I observed consultations and some minor surgery. St Georges Lodge-Hospice: I assisted the patients and the carers and other volunteers at the hospice. I also spent a lot of time with certain patients and was able to develop a very good relationship with them. I spent a lot of time simply listening to the patients and I also learnt a lot about this sort of care. May 2006-Sept 2008-The Beckett Arms Carvery.Waitress and Kitchen Assistant. Voluntary work involving the nursing home, hospice and general practice surgery all contributed to me gaining the award of excellence from the millennium volunteer programme for having two hundred hours of volunteering. Key skills: Communication: ·My part-time job has developed my oral communication skills, through dealing with issues and concerns of the general public in a busy atmosphere, and offering table service to provide an efficient business. ·Volunteering at the hospice and Nursing home helped my communication with the elderly and ill people, and helped me learn the importance of a good relationship with patients as a medical professional. ·The work experience in a primary school gave me the opportunity to develop my communication skills with a different age group, as it is important to adapt communication styles depending on the situation ·My university and A-level courses have allowed me to improve on giving oral presentations to a group and also to develop my written communication skills. Teamwork: ·Working in a restaurant involved working as part of a large team and it was important to understand that co-workers may be under huge pressures, so this often involved helping others with their tasks or responsibilities when mine were already completed. It was also important to work to the very best of my ability all the time and to complete tasks to a high standard so that the team works smoothly. ·Part of several bands/orchestras that are teams as everyone must contribute, work well together and help each other. Organization: ·With a lot of extra-curricular activities it has been important for me to develop the skill of organizing my time so that I arrive on time for events and university lectures or meetings, and to make sure I have enough time to complete set tasks. ·In my part time job and on my course I have learned to prioritise. ·Set up and planning lab sessions properly so that errors are avoided. Technical and IT: ·Used a variety of equipment in practical sessions to develop research techniques. ·Developed IT skills as part of my course, and used a variety of programmes such as excel and PowerPoint. Interests: I play the trumpet and for a long time was part of the county orchestra and various different ensembles at school. I have taken exams up to grade five in my instrument but have continued playing since and have developed to a much higher standard.
